Who Needs Green Beer When There Are Margaritas?

In Arizona we tend to forgo the green beer in favor of a lovely pale green margarita on St. Patrick’s Day. You can make them easily at home without the high-sugar mix. If you use high end tequila and Grand Manier instead of tripe sec it’s called a Cadillac margarita which are usually served in bigger proportions than a regular margarita.

1.5 oz tequila – I like a good smoky tequila like Sauza Tres Generaciones
1 oz Triple Sec or Grand Manier Orange Liqueur
2 oz lime juice, fresh squeezed
1 teaspoon sugar
lime wedge and/or jalapeno slices for garnish
¼ cup coarse salt
crushed ice or ice cubes

Place the salt into a shallow dish. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip into the salt.
Combine the tequila, triple sec or Grand Manier, sugar and ice in a shaker and shake well to combine ingredients.
Fill the salted glass with ice and pour the Margarita over the ice.
Garnish with lime and serve immediately. To add an extra kick you can also garnish with a thin slice of jalapeno.

May the luck of the Irish be with you today!
